Board

An independent board of eight, now being formed. Here is its mandate, its seats and how members are chosen.

Board appointments are in progress. Eight seats are open; members will be announced once appointed and with their consent.

Board appointments are in progress. Our Board will bring together Emirati and Jewish members who share a public commitment to coexistence. Its job is to safeguard the platform's independence, standards and fairness, not to direct day-to-day editorial work. Members will serve in a personal capacity, and no one will appear here without explicit consent. The board welcomes respected voices who support peace, coexistence and facts: get in touch.

Planned mandate

Guard independence

Make sure no government, donor or movement directs what we publish. The site is independent and is not a government body.

Uphold standards

Oversee sourcing rules, the corrections policy and the Claim / Evidence / Verdict / Sources format used on every fact-check.

Hear complaints

Decide serious complaints that the corrections process has not resolved, and publish a summary of each decision.

Review the Index method

Sign off the Benefit Index scoring method before any overall score is published.

Disclose funding

Approve and publish the annual funding and conflict-of-interest declarations.

Protect fairness

Ensure we criticise ideologies and false claims, never peoples or faiths, and that the Muslim Brotherhood is named precisely as an organisation.

Seat categories

Eight seats are planned across these categories. All are open; no member has been appointed.

Selection criteria

  • A public, verifiable record of supporting peace, coexistence and accurate information.
  • No record of incitement, of excusing terrorism or of hatred toward any people or faith.
  • Willingness to serve in a personal capacity and to publish a declaration of interests.
  • Relevant expertise: diplomacy, faith leadership, education, media, law, statistics or civil society.
  • Balance across countries, faiths, gender and generations is sought across the whole board.

Independence and conflicts of interest

  • Serving government officials are not eligible for a seat; they may join a separate advisory council.
  • Members declare roles, funding links and affiliations on appointment and every year, and the declarations are published.
  • A member steps aside from any decision in which they have an interest.
  • Board members have no say over individual fact-check verdicts, which stay with the editors.

How to express interest

Email contact@example.invalid (placeholder address) with the subject "Board interest", a short biography, the seat category, links to your public work and any affiliations to declare. Expressing interest does not make anyone a member, and no name is published without written consent.

Board charter

  1. Role. The Board upholds the mission and the editorial standards, oversees the corrections policy and funding disclosure, and hears serious complaints that are not resolved through the corrections process.
  2. Composition. Eight seats: two Emirati, two Israeli or Jewish community, one Bahraini, one Moroccan, one interfaith and one academic and data seat. Serving government officials may instead join a separate advisory council, so that the Board's independence is preserved.
  3. Terms. Members serve two-year terms, renewable once. One-half of the seats rotate in alternate years to keep continuity.
  4. Conflicts of interest. Members declare relevant roles, funding relationships and affiliations on appointment and annually, and the declarations are published. A member steps aside from any matter in which they have an interest.
  5. Consent and representation. No one is listed, pictured or quoted as a member without their written consent. Members may withdraw at any time, and their profile is removed promptly.
  6. No payment. Board service is currently unpaid. Any future expenses policy will be published.
  7. Decisions. The Board acts by majority, with a quorum of five. Its decisions on complaints are summarised publicly.
